Suga Sushi is one of my favourite places to have Japanese food. Its convenient location in the University Village above McDonald’s makes it a popular hang-out for UBC students as well as residents living nearby.

The thing I like best about Suga is that their food standards are consistently good. I’ve been there many times during the school year, and each time I never fail to be wowed. The service is excellent; the owners are friendly and chatty, and the food arrives quickly even when it is crowded.

Here is a sampling of some of my favourite dishes at Suga:

Spicy Agedashi tofu

Okonomiyaki (Japanese pancake)

Bento Box (Teriyaki Chicken rice, Salmon sashimi, Yakisoba noodles, assorted Tempura, salad)

Bento Box (other variations: with Beef instead of Teriyaki Chicken, with California rolls instead of sashimi, take-out version)

Assorted Tempura

Green Tea Ice Cream

So the next time you are on campus or near the University Village, drop by Suga and give them a try!

Staples has recently started carrying ASUS brand products.

During my first shift back at work after a 2-week hiatus (my final exam period), I was lucky enough to hear the ASUS reps introduce the laptops & the Eee PC, as well as talk about the main selling points of ASUS products. It was also during that shift that I first laid eyes on and played with the ASUS Eee PC!

To say the least, I was highly impressed by the features of the Eee PC. It is shock-proof (the Solid State HDD won’t get damaged even if dropped!), extremely portable (less than 1kg in weight), very intuitive to use (even though it runs on a Linux OS), and overall - a durable and portable mini notebook with functionality that allows its user to surf the internet, create/open/edit word and other office documents, and do a whole bunch of other useful and cool stuff with it.

Of course, there are certain drawbacks: The screen, at 7″, is simply too small. The keyboard is cramped and makes for difficult typing. There is only 4GB of hard disk space - but this is expandable with a SD-card.

I am seriously considering buying the black one for myself. Priced at CDN$399, it will definitely appeal to students who need limited functionality coupled with portability and attractive pricing.

For more information check out the ASUS Eee PC website here.

Here are a few nifty tech add-ons I found today. They help me do things that I normally do, but in a fraction of the time! Check them out:

1> Resizing photos to e-mail/post online:
Image Resizer (Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP)

Info | Download

The Image Resizer blends seamlessly into the right-click options menu once installed, so I can resize many photos all at once, without having to open up an external program like Paintshop Pro to resize them all individually! :>

2> Taking screen captures of entire webpages:
Screengrab! add-on for Mozilla Firefox

Info & Download

This add-on saves me time taking several screen captures of the visible portions of long webpages, then combining them later to get the entire picture.

It is extremely well integrated into the browser - you just right-click anywhere on the desired webpage, and selecting Screengrab! will save that entire page (or a portion of it, as you so choose) as a .PNG or .JPEG file for you instantly!

From the developer’s description:

Screengrab! saves entire webpages as images.

It will save what you can see in the window, the entire page, just a selection, a particular frame… basically it saves webpages as images.

Try these add-ons out for yourselves, if image-resizing & screen captures are things you often do!

Last Sunday, we decided on a whim, to take a short drive down to Bellingham, WA, USA.

It was a beautiful day, and the trip was a welcome break from all the stresses of the final week of classes.

Our first stop was for breakfast - at McDonald’s. I had a Sausage McMuffin with Egg, hashbrowns, and fresh milk that came in a super-cute tiny bottle! Hehe.

We killed some time at the 24-hour Wal-Mart (since it was too early, and shops in the mall weren’t open yet), then drove to the nearby Applebee’s for lunch.

Applebee’s is one of my fave chain restaurants in the US. I love the cozy atmosphere and lively décor there, but most of all, I love the food! :P

We had two orders of Chicken Fried Chicken, two mix-and-match combo platters, & an order of twenty Teriyaki wings. Mmm.. :P

I highly recommend the Chicken Fried Chicken! I always order this when I’m there. Crispy chicken fillet topped with creamy country gravy, served with soft garlic mashed potatoes & broccoli. So good.. and so filling too! :>

The mix-and-match combo platters are a good way to sample a variety of food, in smaller portions. The shrimp, spicy wings, and mini chicken burgers are all super-tasty!

After lunch, we drove to Bellis Fair Mall, and spent the afternoon shopping there. I got some clothes & accessories, and a whole lot of snacks & drinks! Teehee. :P

My fave purchase of the day:
These cute red short boots from Wet Seal! Hehe :>
